Is TekPatrol™
Difficult to Install?
No.
TekMonitors use DHCP for their IP configuration so
installation is easy. To configure the TekMonitors, a
software application called TekWizard is utilized. This
application locates installed TekMonitors using a
proprietary auto-discovery method. Once all of the
TekMonitors are located, just use the simple drag-and-drop
configuration to transfer the information into the
TekMonitors.
What
does TekPatrol
offer over its Competitors?
TekPatrol is not like other asset management software
applications. Unlike other asset management systems that
require a static IP address from your IT group,
TekMonitors are configured using DHCP. This is almost as
easy as Plug-N-Play. TekPatrol monitors any device with
a serial port and its protocol is released by the
manufacturer. This is made possible by the uses of the
TekMonitor which operates like a mini-control system.
One of
the problems when using typical management software to
communicate directly with a video projector is its
ability to detect the validity of theft. Management
software polls the projector for status information. If
there is no response from the projector, the management
software assumes theft has occurred. Most projectors do
not respond during warm-up and cool-down states, so it
is possible to receive a false “Projector Missing”
security email. To solve this problem, TekMonitor uses a
hardware connection to the projector. Only if this
connection becomes disconnected from the monitored
device will a security email be sent. This exclusive
TekMonitor method is instantaneous whereas traditional
polling may take critical minutes to detect loss of
communication. It is also possible to connect a
TekMonitor to an alarm in the room or send a command to
a Web camera.
How
does TekPatrol
Work?
Designed
using a Client/Server network process, TekPatrol polls the
TekMonitors for status information gathered from a device
via the IP network. The TekMonitors are mini-control systems
connected to the serial port of a device. A device driver is
loaded into the TekMonitor that matches the connected
device. On its own the TekMonitor gathers and stores
information about the device. This method allows the
TekMonitor to operate independently of the TekPatrol
software.
